Backend Engineer

About the role

You will work on the infrastructure that powers August's cloud computer, memory, tools, channels, and long-running work. The role is for someone who can keep backend systems simple, reliable, and fast while the product surface changes quickly.

What you'll do

• Own APIs, job orchestration, storage, and data flow behind August workflows.
• Design reliable systems for queues, tools, channels, memory, and internal operations.
• Improve observability, performance, and failure handling across services.
• Keep the backend understandable enough for the team to move quickly.

What we're looking for

• Strong backend engineering experience with production systems.
• Comfort with APIs, queues, storage, databases, and operational debugging.
• Good instincts around simplicity, reliability, and performance.
• Ability to make pragmatic architecture decisions in a fast-moving environment.
