Choose a Profound alternative because another product fits your work better, not because an old comparison says Profound only serves enterprise buyers. Profound now offers self-serve plans and Agents for content workflows. The useful comparison is the exact engine coverage, collection allowance and work included at your budget.
How we compared
We publish August. This guide compares vendors’ published product information, checked September 10, 2026. It is not a hands-on accuracy benchmark. The shortlist advice is our judgment; links let you inspect the underlying features and current plans.
First, check the current Profound offer
Profound’s pricing page lists Starter, Growth and Enterprise, with different engine access and Agent credits. Before switching, write down what your current or proposed tier includes. A lower-priced plan elsewhere may omit a surface you use; a larger bundle may charge you for work you already handle.
Seven alternatives by buying reason
| Alternative | Reason to inspect it | Question to settle |
|---|---|---|
| August | Reviewed fixes with a smaller monthly subscription | Do its prompt and engine allowances cover your needs? |
| AthenaHQ | Content and on-page/off-page actions | Which actions are included, and which need paid add-ons? |
| Scrunch | Agent access and website delivery | Do you need monitoring alone or an AXP deployment? |
| Evertune | Larger prompt and content requirements | Does the collection design fit your market? |
| Peec AI | Daily tracking and prioritized recommendations | Can your team execute the recommended work? |
| Otterly.AI | A smaller initial monitoring plan | What does the required engine bundle cost? |
| Semrush | AI work alongside search analysis | Which toolkit and domain allowances do you need? |
August: a reviewed action after the finding
August starts at $49/month for Starter and $99/month for Pro on monthly billing. The workflow connects saved answers and citations to an editable draft, a copyable publishing handoff or GitHub draft PR, and a later comparison. It does not merge or deploy to your website. Compare the account-wide prompt allowance and weekly schedule with the Profound tier you are considering; the plans are not one-for-one substitutes.
AthenaHQ: inspect the action scope
AthenaHQ offers content work plus on-page/off-page actions, and lists a free entry option alongside paid plans. If your reason for leaving is execution support, ask both AthenaHQ and Profound to demonstrate the same task. Examine the deliverable, review controls and usage charge. Do not assume an “agent” label answers those questions.
Scrunch: when the website delivery layer matters
Scrunch offers monitoring and auditing, with an Agent Experience Platform for AI-facing content delivery. It is a different purchasing question from simply replacing a report. Ask what must be installed, who maintains it and how your team would review the resulting experience.
Evertune: when collection scope justifies a larger plan
Evertune lists Pro at $800/month with a large prompt allowance and content capabilities. Consider it when you have a defined research need that a smaller custom prompt list cannot serve. Ask how coverage is chosen and whether the exported evidence answers that need before using volume as the deciding metric.
Peec AI: daily tracking with recommendations
Peec AI provides monitoring and Actions. It belongs on the shortlist when you want a recurring view of visibility and a prioritized set of opportunities for your team. Confirm the desired models and projects in the purchased tier.
Otterly.AI: reduce the initial commitment
Otterly.AI lists Lite at $29/month on monthly billing, with a small prompt allowance, citations, audits and recommendations. Add the required engine options before deciding it is cheaper for your actual workload. A low starting price is useful when the starting scope is sufficient.
Semrush: keep related search work together
Semrush offers a separately subscribed AI Visibility Toolkit. It is worth inspecting if a team already uses Semrush or needs both broader visibility research and tracked prompts. Compare the reports you will use rather than counting all products in the company’s catalog as part of one subscription.
Switch without losing the comparison baseline
- 1.Export the prompts, complete answers, source URLs and dates you can retain from the old tool.
- 2.Record the score definitions and collection surface. Do not splice a new vendor’s score directly into the old chart.
- 3.Recreate your important questions and brand aliases in the new tool. Check location, language and engine selection.
- 4.If practical, keep a brief overlap and inspect disagreements manually. An overlap reveals differences; it does not establish a universal winner.
- 5.Confirm billing cancellation, workspace access and data-retention terms before ending the old subscription.
Decide with one real task
Ask each finalist to take one confusing answer from evidence to an actionable next step. If your team can understand the finding, review the work and preserve the result, you have a more useful buying signal than a longer feature list.

Questions, answered.
Is Profound enterprise-only?
No. Its current pricing page includes self-serve plans as well as Enterprise. Compare the exact tier rather than relying on older positioning.
Does Profound only monitor visibility?
No. It also offers Agents for content workflows. Evaluate the specific features and credits included in the plan.
Which alternative is cheapest?
Starting prices are not equivalent workloads. Compare the prompts, engines, frequency, workspaces and action allowances you need, including add-ons.
